Our spirit is strong - Fabregas Monday, March 03, 2008
Cesc Fabregas insists the young guns of Arsenal will not buckle as The Premier League title race hots up.
The Gunners have seen a five point lead cut to just one in the last two matches and if Nicklas Bendtner had not scored late against Aston Villa, bitter rivals Manchester United would have returned to the top.
Some believe Arsenal have shown cracks in their recent performances but Fabregas views things in a different light.
“If a team is weak mentally, you do not come back from these games – because these matches when everything is against you, maybe it is not the best game of your life, but still you come back and get the points. That means something,” the Spanish international said.
The playmaker will have to be at his best when Arsene Wenger’s side travel to Milan for Tuesday night’s Champions League encounter and thoughts of the dwindling Premier League lead will not be bothering the player.
“I don’t think there is any reason to be down. Four weeks ago, we were two points behind Man United, then we were five points in front, now we are one point, but still at the top. I don’t think that is bad,” added Fabregas.
"Chelsea have 25 international players, Man United won the league last season, they have a great team.
"We are young and we are there, so we have to look at the positives, not the negatives."
