Fabregas rues Pompey start
Thursday, August 27, 2009

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he probably should not have been risked in his side's meeting with Portsmouth last weekend.

The Spain midfielder was forced off after tweaking his hamstring against Pompey, but was also nursing other problems in the run-up to the contest.

After suffering the injury, the 22-year-old was immediately ruled out of the second-leg of Arsenal's Champions League qualifying tie with Celtic.

But he could also miss the crucial Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday because of the fresh injury.

Although the hamstring problem is not on the same leg he was struggling with before the match, Fabregas thinks that the two injuries are related.

"I had a problem with my left thigh, groin and hamstring - it was all on my left leg," he said.

"But now I have the injury to my right hamstring, probably because I was trying to compensate for the injuries on my left side.

"Perhaps I shouldn't have played on Saturday, and should have rested it. But hopefully it's nothing big."
