I'm lucky with injuries - Fabregas Sunday, March 07, 2010
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas claims he's been lucky with injuries and only good fortune has prevented him from being seriously injured while playing for the Gunners.
Tackling has become a hot topic of debate in the Premier League following Aaron Ramsey’s leg break at Stoke City last weekend. The youngster beccame the third Arsenal player in recent seasons to suffer serious injury, following a tackle from Ryan Shawcross.
The Spainish international admitted he had no problem with the physical nature of the English game, but again spoke out against high tackles.
“Everyone thinks 'We are playing Arsenal, we have to go in hard on them', and I have no problem with the contact game," he told the Press Association Sport.
"If opponents think that is the best way for them to beat us, no problem, but when you put your foot half a metre high on someone's leg, that is not right.
"It is not the first time this season we have seen challenges like this, but until someone breaks their leg no-one speaks about it.
"It has happened twice to me this season and I was lucky I did not get badly injured.”
The Gunner also admitted that while he believed Shawcross did not intend harm last weekend, his tackle was reckless.
"I am sure he [Ryan Shawcross] did not want to break Aaron's [Ramsey] leg, but the tackle was dangerous. It was terrible,” he added.
"I am sure he wanted to win the ball, but when your foot is that high only he knows what he was trying to do."
