Cesc backs USA
Saturday, June 26, 2010
While the Americans surprised many in beating England to the top spot in Group C, Fabregas witnessed their ability first-hand at last year's Confederations Cup.
"The USA never give up. That's why I believe they can go much further because they fight to the end and work so hard," said the Arsenal captain.
Fabregas's Spain side lost to the USA 2-0 in the 2009 tournament semi-finals, a shock result that showed the world the improvement in US "soccer".
"The best moment for me at the World Cup so far was that nail biting end when the USA scored in the last minute against Algeria," added Fabregas.
The United States finished their group matches with five points, level with England, but had the advantage in goals scored to finish before the Three Lions.
And they will fancy their chances of beating Ghana in the second round to set up a quarter-final clash between the winner of Uruguay and Korea Republic.
"They have spirit too - they came from two goals down against Slovenia to get a draw and scored in injury time against Algeria to go through," said Fabregas.
"So I can see them reaching the semi-finals and then who knows what might happen."
