Fabregas quiet on future
Thursday, July 15, 2010

Cesc Fabregas has refused to make a firm statement on his future but insists nothing should be read into the incident that saw him don a Barcelona shirt in Madrid.

Fabregas has been strongly linked with Barcelona this summer but, while a move looked almost inevitable at one point, recent remarks from all parties appear to indicate he could be set to remain at Arsenal for the coming season.

When questioned, though, Fabregas has refused to commit his future to his current employers.

"I think now the less said about the subject much the better, because these things are worse for everyone when they come to light and people talk more about the matter," he said. "Right now we have to be very calm and what will be will be."

In regard to the incident that saw Barca players Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique pull a Blaugrana shirt onto Fabregas during the post-World Cup celebrations, the midfielder said that should not be taken as a sign he is bound for Camp Nou.

"These are things that happen at special moments, and I don't think it should be gone on about much more because it was just another anecdote of a great night, a great celebration," he said.

"There are times we do not even know what we do, so everything can be forgiven. Pepe (Reina) took me there (to the front of the stage) - the truth is that I didn't know anything like that was going to happen and so I was a bit surprised.

"At first I thought it was a flag or something, but it's nothing. You had to enjoy it and if it's a way to have fun, it's nothing."

The player's father, Francesc Fabregas, insists his son would never disrespect Arsenal.

"It was a day of celebration and anything goes," he told COM Radio. "If anyone misinterprets it, they have to see that it was part of a celebration.

"Cesc has it very clear what Arsenal has been and is for him. He is super grateful to them and it has never crossed his mind to do something wrong towards them.

"Cesc said what he wanted to do the day after the end of the league so that Arsenal had time to react. It would have been nasty to say it today, when they are almost on the verge of starting the pre-season.

"But he always did so thinking about Arsenal. It remains to be seen how everything turns out."
